Reading a hand
The table
Each hand plays out on a 9-max tournament table: stage and field size on the felt, pot and blinds at center, villain seats highlighted, and your position and stack below the rail. The dealer prompt carries the full scenario text — tap any ⓘ abbreviation for a definition.
Tap to decide
Choose All-In or Raise on your left, Fold or Check/Call on your right. After each decision, tap Next Hand beside those buttons to deal another spot.
The scoreboard
Accuracy counts exact matches with the preferred line on quiz streets and on later Play-the-streets decisions. Win % tracks showdown and award results when you play a hand out.
GTO teaching
GTO teaching uses balanced lines — wider defense vs cheap bets, tighter probes on wet boards. Strength heuristic stays available as the default. Not a live compute.

A beginner guide to Texas Hold’em: which five-card hands beat which, and what happens on each street of a hand.
Order of the hands
At showdown, each player makes the best five-card hand from their two hole cards plus the five community cards. Stronger categories always beat weaker ones — a pair of aces beats any high-card hand, and a flush beats any straight.

1. Royal flush
A–K–Q–J–10, all the same suit. The absolute best hand — it is unbeatable.

2. Straight flush
Five cards in sequence, all the same suit (for example 9♥ 8♥ 7♥ 6♥ 5♥). The highest top card wins if two players both have one.

3. Four of a kind (quads)
Four cards of the same rank (for example four kings) plus one kicker. Higher quads beat lower quads; if both have the same quads, the kicker decides.

4. Full house
Three of one rank and two of another (for example three queens and two fives — “queens full of fives”). Compare the trips first, then the pair.

5. Flush
Any five cards of the same suit, not in sequence. Compare the highest card, then the next, and so on.

6. Straight
Five cards in sequence of mixed suits (for example 10♥ 9♠ 8♦ 7♥ 6♠). Ace can be high (A–K–Q–J–10) or low (5–4–3–2–A), but not wrapping around both ends.

7. Three of a kind (trips / set)
Three cards of the same rank plus two kickers. A “set” usually means you paired both hole cards with one board card; “trips” often means the board already holds a pair.

8. Two pair
Two different pairs plus one kicker. Compare the higher pair first, then the lower pair, then the kicker.

9. One pair
Two cards of the same rank plus three kickers. Higher pairs win; if both have the same pair, kickers decide.

10. High card
No pair or better. The highest card wins, then the next, and so on down the five-card hand.
The streets
A hand of Texas Hold’em unfolds in betting rounds called streets. Cards are dealt, then players act in turn — check, bet, call, raise, or fold — until the betting round closes.
Preflop
Each player is dealt two private hole cards face down. The small blind and big blind post forced bets. Action starts left of the big blind: fold, call the big blind, or raise. No community cards are out yet — you are playing your hole cards and position alone.
Flop
The dealer burns one card, then deals three community cards face up. This is the first postflop street and usually the biggest information jump of the hand. Action starts with the first active player left of the dealer button (often the small blind in a multiway pot).
Turn
After the flop betting round, one more community card is dealt (four on board total). Pots grow and draws either complete or miss. Bet sizes often get larger relative to the pot than on the flop.
River
The fifth and final community card. No more cards will come. Decisions here are about value, bluffs, and calling correctly — there is no future street to improve on.
Showdown
If two or more players are still in after the river betting round, hands are revealed. The best five-card hand wins the pot (or splits it on an exact tie). Folded players never show unless the room requires it.
Putting it together
Blinds go in, hole cards are dealt, players act preflop, then the flop, turn, and river are dealt with a betting round after each. When the last bet is called (or everyone checks), the best hand at showdown takes the pot. Off: hand's over after you act. Play the streets: flop, turn, and river stay live.
Show review after every play
On: coach jumps in after you act. Keep this off to stay on the felt until you tap Review.
Villain model
How the other seats pick a line when streets run — strength, GTO, or a surprise each hand.
Play hand delay
How long opponents sit in the tank before each bet, call, or fold in the animation.
How long each opponent thinks before their action during the hand animation (0–10 seconds per action). Does not apply to you (the hero). Setting this to 0 skips the opponent animation and jumps to your decision.
Hero play timer
Shot clock for your decision once action is on you.
How long you have to decide once action is on you (0–60 seconds). A countdown appears over your hole cards. At 0 the timer is off. In training spots, if time runs out, actions lock and you’ll see “Time’s up — tap to act” — the clock never auto-plays for you. In a sit-and-go, an expired clock auto-Checks when it’s free, otherwise Folds, so the table keeps moving. After you act, Continue and New hand use the same duration with a countdown on those buttons and auto-advance when it hits 0.
